The eighth zodiac sign probably traces its origin to an ancient Greek myth that has many versions. The one we are most familiar with is about Orion, a mortal who was a great hunter. The god Apollo and goddess Gaia grew tired of Orion’s bragging and created a giant scorpion (Scorpio) to kill him. Zeus turned the two combatants into constellations. Symbolizing the eternal chase, Scorpio and Orion do not appear in the night sky at the same time: as Scorpio rises, Orion sets.
